The City School District of Albany is seeking volunteers for the Community Budget Committee, which provides input to the Board of Education on community priorities and areas Albany residents would like to see resources directed to in the budget planning for 2023-24.

Volunteers will work alongside district employees to develop an understanding of revenue sources, mandated programs and services, and resource allocation in support of our vision, mission and goals.

The committee is anticipated to hold four in-person meetings from January until mid-March. It will provide input to the board prior to the board’s adoption of the 2023-24 budget proposal in April. Albany voters will consider the budget proposal on May 16.

All interested candidates will be considered and those with financial experience are encouraged to apply. Please submit a letter of introduction and resume to Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance Joseph Karas at jkaras@albany.k12.ny.us. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

The $288.2 million budget for the current school year passed last June with 78% approval, the highest approval percentage in the district’s history.
