Feb. 9-March 1 COVID-19 cases

City School District of Albany

The City School District of Albany was notified of 65 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Feb. 9-March 1.

Three cases are associated with the district’s administrative offices at Academy Park. None is associated with a grade. One person was last in the building on Feb. 16, one on Feb. 15 and one on Feb. 10.

Ten cases are associated with Albany High School.

  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 24.
  • Two cases involve people last in school Feb. 17. One is not associated with a grade and the other is associated with 12th grade.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 14.
  • Two cases involve people not associated with a grade who were last in school Feb. 13.
  • Two cases involve people who were last in school Feb. 10. One is not associated with a grade and the other is associated with 11th grade.
  • One case involves ninth grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 9.
  • One case involves 10th grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 8.

One case is associated with Albany School of Humanities. The person is not associated with a grade and was last in school Feb. 13.

Three cases are associated with Arbor Hill Elementary School.

  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 17.
  • One case involves fourth grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 13.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 9.

Two cases are associated with Eagle Point Elementary School. One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 14. The other case involves first grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 3.

One case is associated with Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence. The person is not associated with a grade and was last in school Feb. 10.

One case is associated with Giffen Memorial Elementary School. The person is not associated with a grade and was last in school Feb. 15.

Two cases are associated with Harriet Gibbons Student Services Center, and neither person is associated with a grade. One was last in the building Feb. 15 and the other was last in the building Feb. 10.

Five cases are associated with Montessori Magnet School.

  • Two cases involve people last in school Feb. 9. One person is not associated with a grade and the other is associated with kindergarten.
  • Two cases involve people last in school Feb. 8. One person is not associated with a grade and the other is associated with kindergarten.
  • One case involves kindergarten, and the person was last in school Feb. 7.

Fourteen cases are associated with New Scotland Elementary School.

  • Nine cases involve people who were last in school Feb. 17. Two cases are not associated with a grade. Four cases are associated with first grade, one case with second grade, one case with fourth grade and one case with fifth grade.
  • One case involves fifth grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 16.
  • One case involves kindergarten, and the person was last in school Feb. 15.
  • One case involves third grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 13.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 10.
  • One cases involves fifth grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 9.

Two cases are associated with North Albany Middle School, and neither person is associated with a grade. One person was last in school Feb. 10 and the other Feb. 8.

Three cases are associated with Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy. None of the cases is associated with a grade. All were last in school Feb. 17.

Four cases are associated with Pine Hills Elementary School.

  • One case involves first grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 17.
  • Two cases involve kindergarten. One person was last in school Feb. 16 and the other Feb. 15.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 10.

One case is associated with second grade at Sheridan Preparatory Academy, and the person was last in school Feb. 14.

Four cases are associated with Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.

  • Two people were last in school Feb. 17. One case involves a person not associated with a grade, and the other involves a person associated with eighth grade.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 13.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 2.

Three cases are associated with Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST).

  • One case involves fourth grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 17.
  • One case involves first grade, and the person was last in school Feb. 9.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Jan. 20.

Six cases are associated with Tony Clement Center for Education.

  • Two cases involve people not associated with a grade who were last in school Feb. 17.
  • Three cases involve people not associated with a grade who were last in Feb. 13.
  • One case involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Feb. 9.

Please be reminded that schools no longer are required to quarantine individuals who in the past were identified as contacts of a person who tests positive. We now identify anyone within a 6-foot radius of a positive individual as having been exposed and provide notification to that individual or, in the case of a student, their parent or guardian. We will continue to report positive cases.

Health and safety procedures continue at all district buildings and on buses, including cleaning and sanitizing. We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:

1. Masks are optional in all school buildings in New York and, in our school district, on First Student buses and CDTA buses that transport students. (See Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Sept. 7 announcement that masking will now be optional in multiple settings where they were previously required, including on public transportation.) The district will respect the personal decision of all individuals and families regarding wearing masks in settings where they are optional. 

2. Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

3. Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.

4. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:  

  • Signs of COVID-19 are fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way. 
  • Please notify your school nurse if you are keeping your child home from school with symptoms; you can find that contact information on your school’s web page.

5. We continue to encourage everyone who is able and eligible to get vaccinated.
