Share your reopening feedback with us

A reminder that there are several opportunities available for all students, families and community members to learn about the current status of our planning for the start of the 2020-21 school year, and to share your feedback with us.

Our current survey, with questions specifically related to your thoughts about full virtual instruction or an in-person or blended model as well as transportation, will be open through next Tuesday, Aug. 4. We have received more than 730 responses to date and appreciate all of the feedback.

Our general question and feedback form also will remain open on an ongoing basis as we move through the reopening process in August. That form allows you to provide feedback and ask questions in a wide range of areas. We have received more than 800 responses through that form to date.

All of your comments and questions are being considered as we plan for a healthy and safe start to the new school year. We are working toward the state's Friday deadline for all New York school districts to submit reopening plans. Our plan will be available on our website, along with a list of Frequently Asked Questions. We will continue to update the FAQ document on an ongoing basis over the weeks ahead.

You also can check out the presentations and videos from our elementary, middle school and high school virtual forums. In addition to the presentations, the forums also included responses to some of your most frequently asked questions, as well as responses to questions submitted live during each forum.

Virtual elementary summer school begins Monday

A reminder that our virtual elementary summer school program begins Monday.

The program will operate each weekday through Aug. 28 and is designed to help preset elementary students entering grades 1-6 for a successful new school year.

Students will have access to two hours of live virtual instruction each weekday on the following schedule:

  • Grades 1-3 -- 8:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Grades 4-6 -- 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Students can login to their Google Classroom using their student ID. Instruction will focus on skills students need for a strong start to the school year in ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science, as well as navigating all the changes that have occurred in our community due to COVID-19 and racial injustice.

If you registered for the program, watch your mail this week for a letter with more information.

Summer Adventure awaits!

Thanks to our partners at Capital Region BOCES, students from kindergarten-grade 5 can take part in free and fun summertime activities on a new website.

The Summer Adventure website provides a wealth of activities for kids and their families, ranging from cooking to science to arts and crafts to mindful moments. With a mix of independent learning and family fun, parents will have the freedom to choose from a variety of summer adventures for their kids.

New activities are unveiled every Friday through Aug. 21 to keep kids active all summer long. Sign up here for Summer Adventure activities delivered to your inbox each week.
