Thanks to the Albany Fund for Education, our community schools program and some amazing community partners, students at three of our elementary schools had a blast going to school during winter break this week!
The AFE Empower Up! Enrichment Camps provided opportunities for students at Delaware Community School, Giffen Memorial Elementary School and Roots Academy at West Hill to take part in a range of fun hands-on activities throughout the week.
At Delaware, students participated in STEM projects with 4th Family and the Radix Center. At Giffen, the focus was on literacy and social-emotional learning with Building Blocks and Lucid Writers. At Roots Academy, our partners at The RED Bookshelf and CREATE Community Studios engaged students in projects connected to literacy and the arts.
The first-time program was funded through a $25,000 AFE Impact Grant awarded to the district’s community schools program. The free camps also provided breakfast and lunch. About 20-25 participated at each location.
The camps also will be offered at the same schools during spring break, April 6-10.
