On Tuesday, students in Colleen Multer's Business Math class participated in an interactive lesson on financial literacy led by guest presenter Michelle Lavoy of First New York Federal Credit Union.
In a format similar to the board game The Game of Life, students randomly selected a card that detailed their job title, marital status and number of children. The cards also included information about their annual salary, monthly paychecks, loans and more.
With this information in hand, students worked on a budget simulation worksheet. They made thoughtful decisions about how much to allocate to essentials like housing, transportation, and groceries, while also setting aside funds for savings and retirement.
We are grateful to be part of a school community that values strong financial education, helping to set students up for future success.
