Honored to serve our students and families

Portrait of Interim Superintendent John Yagielski

As I begin my role as the interim superintendent, I would like to express my gratitude to the City School District of Albany Board of Education for placing its trust in me to carry on the excellent progress the district made under Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams.

I am honored to have this opportunity to serve Albany’s students and families.

While I come with many years of experience as a leader in other school districts, I recognize that I have much more to learn about our schools and the district.

The timing of this transition allowed me the opportunity to meet and talk with staff at both the building and district levels. I had the opportunity to visit every school, meet with the school principal and visit classrooms.

I have been impressed with what I have witnessed in our classrooms – caring, competent teachers engaging our students in meaningful learning experiences underpinned by robust curriculum and extensive social-emotional supports.

My plan is to continue to visit our schools and establish informal “drop-in” sessions for faculty and staff.

I have great admiration and respect for the leadership team in place in Albany, and I am looking forward to joining this team and serving this community as we work together to continue the progress achieved under Superintendent Adams.

Sincerely,

John Yagielski
Interim Superintendent
