Improving literacy by leaps and bounds

Students pose for pictures behind superhero photo cutouts

They’re Giffen Gators, and they’re superheroes when it comes to building fundamental literacy skills!

On Friday, Giffen Memorial Elementary School invited students and staff to wear a superhero shirt to celebrate how well they are doing in meeting milestones in phonics, phonological awareness, word study and other parts of their Lexia supplemental lessons.

These pre-K and kindergarten students had a blast posing for pictures with superhero photo props, and they received plenty of hugs and high-fives from Griffen the Gator.

You can see a Facebook photo album from the fun. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the photos linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)
