Grade 5 kicks off in-person learning

Teacher stands in front of students at desks placed six feet apart

City School District of Albany fifth-graders whose families opted for in-person learning returned to their elementary schools on Monday for orientation.

Things were different. They had to wear face masks, stand six feet apart and get their temperatures taken (touch-free!) before they walked in to their school building. Their classes were smaller and their desks were placed at least six feet from every other student’s.

But these COVID-19 precautions couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of students and teachers being physically back together for the first time since March. Check out Facebook photos of the first day of in-person learning for fifth-graders at Arbor Hill Elementary School, Delaware Community School, Eagle Point Elementary School, Giffen Memorial Elementary School, Montessori Magnet School, New Scotland Elementary School, Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy and Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST).

Students from prekindergarten-grade 6 who chose in-person learning will return to school one day this week for orientation. If your child is among those students, find out which day to come to the school building.
