Fifth grade financial smarts

On Thursday, fifth graders in Kateri Rusinovich and Jill Lemire’s class received virtual advice about making informed financial decisions from the pros at SEFCU.

Their lesson came from SEFCU’s Institute for Financial Well-Being, which will provide similar sessions to fifth graders throughout the district through the end of the school year.

You can see a Facebook photo album of the session here. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the photos linked in the highlighted text above. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)

Students learned about financial concepts and decisions related to budgeting, daily money choices, entrepreneurship and philanthropy with the goal of starting good lifetime financial habits. They explored these ideas through an exercise about feeding our community using sustainable foods. Guided by a SEFCU expert, students discussed types of gardens, concepts of money and the act of making tradeoffs when considering a budget.

Thank you for being a great community partner, SEFCU! Members of the community can get free financial sessions through the Institute for Financial Well-Being, and you can learn more here.
