Edmund J. O’Neal Middle School of Excellence is adding 8.5 positions during the current marking period as the City School District of Albany begins to strategically rebuild its staffing and programs.

The new positions at O’Neal during the third quarter are:

  • 3 hall monitors (shared with the Tony Clement Center for Education program, which is located in the same building)
  • 3 teaching assistants
  • 1 math intervention teacher
  • 1 reading intervention teacher
  • 1 half-time home school coordinator

These positions are among 74.2 that the district is reinstating during the third marking period to support the continued expansion of in-person opportunities for general education students in grades 7-12.

In September, the O’Neal positions were among the 215.6 the district reduced when faced with the possibility of a 20% reduction in state aid due to the COVID-19 economic crisis. The district also is planning to rehire additional faculty and staff for the fourth quarter, which begins April 26, to support the planned hybrid instructional model at the secondary level.
