Our English Language Learners share their stories

Student signs his name in the cover of a book

The English Language Learners at Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy shared their thoughts about themselves and their cultures, their “coming to America” experiences and their hopes for the future in a newly-published book, and they held book-signings and readings all week to celebrate their work.

The book is called “Our Stories: The World in Our School.” It contains self-portraits and writing by students from kindergarten-grade 5 who are students of English as a New Language teachers Laura Abate and Rachelle Luciani.

The project was edited by Abate and funded through a grant from our wonderful community partners at the Albany Fund for Education. The 30 student-author/artists each received a copy of the book.
