Guidance services timeline

Albany High's Guidance Department works throughout the year to help ensure the success of our students, with several important milestones happening each month. For more information on any of these items, please feel free to contact us.

  • Adjustments to student schedules relative to level changes
  • Enrollment of students transferring to our district
  • Conferences with seniors regarding college choices
  • Presentation to 11th grade classes about PSATS sign ups
  • Host local College Fair 
  • Review of progress through interim reports
  • Continued modification of student schedules as necessary
  • Helping seniors register for SATs and ACTs
  • PSAT is given to juniors
  • Start meeting our freshmen!
  • Begin hosting weekly college fairs in media center (Anywhere between 14 and 28 schools and universities come at a time)
  • The college application process begins in earnest
  • Review of progress through report cards
  • Hudson Valley Instant Admission Day for seniors
  • College deadlines are fast approaching
  • Distribution of regents review schedules for January exams
  • Visit classrooms to return PSAT results
  • Financial Aid Information Night for seniors and parent
  • Individual meeting with juniors to create schedule for the following year
  • Sign up students for January regents exam 
  • Individual meetings with sophomores to create schedule for the following year
  • Review of seniors’ credits and 2nd quarter report cards in preparation for graduation
  • Begin hosting financial aid help nights (financial aid experts are on hand to help parents fill out unitemized tax forms and the FAFSA form)
  • Individual meetings with freshmen to create schedules for the following year
  • Presentation to 9th grade classes regarding careers, summer jobs, working papers, etc.
  • Junior assemblies held to provide information on the college application process
  • Junior College Information Night for parents and students
  • Individual meetings with juniors to do college searches
  • Help juniors register for spring SATs, SAT IIs and ACTs
  • Help accelerated underclassmen register for SAT IIs
  • Continue junior interviews
  • Distribution of Regents Review Schedules for June exams
  • Sign students up for June regents exams
  • Notification of summer school sent to parents
  • Summer school registration
