Greetings, Falcon families!

News of the week

  • Celebrate Lunar New Year with us – All are welcome to attend a Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday (TOMORROW) in the auditorium from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., sponsored by the Chinese Club and the Chinese Community Center.
  • No school for students next Friday – All City School District of Albany schools will hold parent-teacher conferences next Thursday, Feb. 8 and Friday, Feb. 9, and there is no school for students on Friday, Feb. 9. 
  • Nominate a special ed hero –The Albany Special Education Parent Advisory Council is seeking nominations for the 2024 HERO Award for Special Education.The award recognizes and celebrates excellence in education by spotlighting those who go above and beyond to support special education students in the City School District of Albany. Nominations are due next Friday, Feb. 9.
  • Food pantry next week – The school food pantry behind the Citizenship Office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:30 p.m. or by appointment. Specials next week include yogurt granola bars, American cheese slices, turkey, chicken, ham, beef, shredded carrots, berries, apples, fresh bread and eggs. 
  • Intramurals underway – If you are interested in participating in baseball, softball, lacrosse, football or tennis workouts, head to the the Athletics page on the district website for registration information and the schedule. Please note changes to the schedule for tennis workouts. 
  • Saving lives, one pint at a time – Students, staff and community members donated 55 pints of lifesaving blood Wednesday at the second of three blood drives Albany High will hold this year.
  • Thank you, senior swimmers – The Falcons bid farewell to two team leaders Thursday, before their final home meet of the season vs. Shen. Good luck to the Class of 2024's Devin Finn and Luke Carroll!
  • Falcons run, jump to Sectional success – Congratulations to the three Albany High individuals and one relay team who scored in last week's Sectional meet at Hudson Valley Community College.
  • Falcon art on display – The creativity of eight student-artists will be on display Feb. 5-28. Congratulations to our student artists on being chosen in the 2024 Art in Three Dimensions show.

Important reminders

  • Volunteer at sports concession stand – The Albany Booster Club is seeking adult volunteers to staff the concession stand during home athletic games.

  • Next Gen Barbers is open for business  Students, staff and community members can get haircuts Thursday and Friday afternoons from from 1:15-2:45 p.m. at Abrookin. Cost is free for students, $5 for staff and $10 for community members, and an appointment is required.
  • Student ID reminder  Please see this important information about student ID cards.
  • Free salon services for 55+ – Attention Albany residents age 55 and up: Get free beauty services from aspiring beauticians every Thursday at Albany High!
  • Leaving school Albany High School is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave campus for any reason without parent permission. This includes during lunch and study hall. If a student has an appointment, i.e. doctor, medical, family matter, etc., they must have a note or phone call from a parent giving permission to leave. All students also must be signed out by a parent in order to leave school grounds. Students who leave campus without a valid reason will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact.
  • Traveling to and from Abrookin  All students must take the bus to and from Abrookin Career and Technical Center and the main campus for any classes. This will prevent students from being late and having to go back through security, and ensure student safety. Students who do not take the bus will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact. The bus is available at Building 2, Stair 2-2 and at the Abrookin entrance.
