News of the week

  • Falcon jazz Friday (TONIGHT!) – Albany High's amazing jazz ensembles have a community gig at Spinners on Friday from 7-10 p.m. Stop by to hear some great tunes!
  • Sign up for city summer jobs – The City of Albany is accepting registration through March 31 for the 2024 LIGHT Summer Youth Employment Program.
  • Black History Celebration Wednesday – Albany High will hold a Black History Celebration on Wednesday in the third-floor balcony area, at 6 p.m., with doors open at 5:30 p.m. 
  • Spring musical opens in a week – Opening night for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is a just a week away! The Theater Ensemble will present three performances of the musical Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on March 10. All shows are in the school auditorium. 
  • Help out Theater Ensemble – Donate a baked good, snack or bottled water to be sold at the concession stand during the Theater Ensemble's spring musical production! The play runs March 8-10. If goodies are homemade, please include a list of ingredients. You can drop them off by Thursday in the main office.
  • In the food pantry – The school food pantry behind the Citizenship Office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:30 p.m. or by appointment. Specials next week include Half-gallons of juice, 10-pound turkeys, mayonnaise, Honey Nut Cheerios, sugar, pinto beans, fresh fruit, eggs, shrimp-flavored ramen noodles, ready pie crusts, white rice.
  • A word about June 4 – Albany High will be administering the Algebra Regents on Tuesday, June. 4. Only students taking the exam need to report to school on that day.
  • Sign up for spring sports – This spring, the City School District of Albany will field a new girls' flag football team, along with boys' tennis, baseball, softball, track and field (boys and girls) and lacrosse (boys and girls). Registration for students in grades 9-12 began Feb. 11 and must be completed - including physical documentation - via Final Forms.
  • 'Black History IS American History' – Abrookin Career and Technical Center had something for everyone at their “Black History is American History” program on Thursday: song, dance and inspiring words from students, staff, alums and local luminaries.
  • From Falcon blue to Great Dane purple – On Thursday, some 50 Albany High School seniors accepted to the University at Albany had the opportunity to get college swag and a “can’t wait to see you” recognition from the university.
  • Falcons’ rally falls short in AAA semis – A tenacious second-half comeback effort by the Albany High School girls’ basketball team fell short in the Section 2 Class AAA semifinals at Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday night. Congratulations to Coach Decky Lawson and the entire team on a hard-fought game and strong season.

Important reminders

  • Volunteer at sports concession stand – The Albany Booster Club is seeking adult volunteers to staff the concession stand during home athletic games. 
  • Next Gen Barbers is open for business  Students, staff and community members can get haircuts Thursday and Friday afternoons from from 1:15-2:45 p.m. at Abrookin. Cost is free for students, $5 for staff and $10 for community members, and an appointment is required.
  • Student ID reminder  Please see this important information about student ID cards.
  • Free salon services for 55+ – Attention Albany residents age 55 and up: Get free beauty services from aspiring beauticians every Thursday at Albany High!
  • Leaving school Albany High School is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave campus for any reason without parent permission. This includes during lunch and study hall. If a student has an appointment, i.e. doctor, medical, family matter, etc., they must have a note or phone call from a parent giving permission to leave. All students also must be signed out by a parent in order to leave school grounds. Students who leave campus without a valid reason will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact.
  • Traveling to and from Abrookin  All students must take the bus to and from Abrookin Career and Technical Center and the main campus for any classes. This will prevent students from being late and having to go back through security, and ensure student safety. Students who do not take the bus will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact. The bus is available at Building 2, Stair 2-2 and at the Abrookin entrance.
