Greetings, Falcon families! 


News of the week

  • No school Friday; back from break April 8 – Spring Recess starts Friday, tomorrow, and students are off until Monday, April 8. Please note that students will dismiss early on April 8, at 1:30 p.m., due to the solar eclipse that will occur that afternoon.
  • JROTC at MVP March Madness – If you're attending or tuning into any of the NCAA women's basketball games at the MVP Arena on Sunday or Monday, make sure to take time to watch the color guard presentations! Our Henry Johnson Battalion Junior ROTC will be presenting the flags at the start of both days' competitions.
  • From Washington Avenue to Wall Street?A team of aspiring financiers from Albany High School took second place on Wednesday at the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge. Shakif Ahnaf, Justin Rattray, Nolan Sweet and Tayab Talukder finished as Albany High's top team. Theirs was one of 19 from Albany High at the event, which drew more than 400 students from eight area schools.
  • Four Falcons tapped for Boys State 2024 – Four cadets in our Sgt. Henry Johnson Battalion Junior ROTC have been selected to attend American Legion Boys State this summer. They are Mohammed Almelhim, Sean Dwyer, John Gormley and Sean Keefe. All are juniors.
  • Boost those grades over break – The Online Success Program will be open Tuesday theough Friday of next week from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All students enrolled in the  program are encouraged to come in during that time.
  • Attention music lovers – The Albany Friends of Music is a free-to-join volunteer organization of parents, teachers and community members who support music education in the City School District of Albany. Sign up to become a member or make a donation!
  • Get help with college aid forms – Completing college financial aid forms can be overwhelming, but the Guidance Department will host a working session on April 12 from 9 a.m.-noon for families needing assistance completing applications for the Free Application for Student Aid, or FAFSA, and the Tuition Assistance Program, or TAP – both of which help determine whether a student is eligible for college financial aid. Registration is required.
  • In the food pantry – The school food pantry will be closed during Spring Recess, and will reopen on Tuesday, April 9.
  • Community forum in April – A second community meeting is planned to provide updates on our partnership with the National Coalition Building Institute and its work with our school community following last December’s student conflicts. The meeting is April 16 in the library at 6:30 p.m.
  • Volunteer at a concession stand – The Albany Booster Club – which, among other things, supports athletic, arts and JROTC funding – needs adult volunteers to run the concession stand during home games this spring on the turf field. Please sign up for a shift today!
  • A word about June 4 – Albany High will be administering the Algebra Regents on Tuesday, June. 4. Only students taking the exam need to report to school on that day.

Important reminders

  • Next Gen Barbers is open for business  Students, staff and community members can get haircuts Thursday and Friday afternoons from from 1:15-2:45 p.m. at Abrookin. Cost is free for students, $5 for staff and $10 for community members, and an appointment is required.
  • Student ID reminder  Please see this important information about student ID cards.
  • Free salon services for 55+ – Attention Albany residents age 55 and up: Get free beauty services from aspiring beauticians every Thursday at Albany High!
  • Leaving school Albany High School is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave campus for any reason without parent permission. This includes during lunch and study hall. If a student has an appointment, i.e. doctor, medical, family matter, etc., they must have a note or phone call from a parent giving permission to leave. All students also must be signed out by a parent in order to leave school grounds. Students who leave campus without a valid reason will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact.
  • Traveling to and from Abrookin  All students must take the bus to and from Abrookin Career and Technical Center and the main campus for any classes. This will prevent students from being late and having to go back through security, and ensure student safety. Students who do not take the bus will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact. The bus is available at Building 2, Stair 2-2 and at the Abrookin entrance.
