Greetings, Falcon families!


News of the week

  • Music honor society inductions – On Tuesday, 34 students will be inducted into Tri-M Music Honor Society. The event, from 5-7 p.m., will include solo and small group performances and a reception along with the induction ceremony. All are welcome to come and celebrate with us!
  • Cap and gown orders due Wednesday – Attention seniors: If you haven't done so already, please visit albanyschools.org/2024 and place your online cap and gown order! 
  • Chamber Concert Wednesday – Spring concert season officially kicks off on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the auditorium with a Chamber Concert featuring the B Flats intermediate jazz ensemble, Albanettes, Troubadors, Chamber Choir, String Quartet and Jazzmanian Devils advanced jazz ensemble.
  • In the food pantry next week – The school food pantry behind the Citizenship Office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:30 p.m. or by appointment. Specials next week include chicken, ground beef, eggs, Lactaid and snacks.
  • Senior prom is June 15 – The Senior Class presents "Masquerade" on Saturday, June 15 from 6:30-11 p.m. at the Empire State Convention Center. Cost is $75, and payment must be either cash or a check made out to Class of 2024. Tickets will go on sale in mid-May and can be purchased during all lunch shifts outside the main office.  
  • Community meeting postponed until May – A second community meeting is planned in May to provide updates on our partnership with the National Coalition Building Institute and its work with our school community following last December’s student conflicts. Stay tuned for more information.
  • Spring  ’24 athletics off to a great start – Varsity baseball (5-4 over Bethlehem), varsity flag football (44-2 over Bethlehem) and varsity softball (6-4 over Niskayuna) all earned wins in Suburban Council play this week and boys’ lacrosse defeated Lansingburgh High School 17-1. Congrats, Falcons, and keep up the great work!
  • Duo called back for 'best' theater awards – Ray Blanken and Iris Whalen – two cast members from the Theater Ensemble’s spring musical – will audition at Proctors this weekend to be finalists for Best Actor and Best Actress in the 2024 High School Musical Theatre Awards. Break a leg!
  • Congrats to our All-Stars – Samir Gardner and Malachi Young were recognized by the Times Union for their impressive indoor track seasons. We can't wait to see what they will accomplish during the spring track and field season!
  • Boys' basketball accolades – Congratulations to Jayson Johnson and Daniel Covington on their post-season recognition!

Important reminders

  • Volunteer at a concession stand – The Albany Booster Club – which, among other things, supports athletic, arts and JROTC funding – needs adult volunteers to run the concession stand during home games this spring on the turf field. Please sign up for a shift today!
  • A word about June 4 – Albany High will be administering the Algebra Regents on Tuesday, June. 4. Only students taking the exam need to report to school on that day.
  • Next Gen Barbers is open for business  Students, staff and community members can get haircuts Thursday and Friday afternoons from from 1:15-2:45 p.m. at Abrookin. Cost is free for students, $5 for staff and $10 for community members, and an appointment is required.
  • Student ID reminder  Please see this important information about student ID cards.
  • Free salon services for 55+ – Attention Albany residents age 55 and up: Get free beauty services from aspiring beauticians every Thursday at Albany High!
  • Leaving school Albany High School is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave campus for any reason without parent permission. This includes during lunch and study hall. If a student has an appointment, i.e. doctor, medical, family matter, etc., they must have a note or phone call from a parent giving permission to leave. All students also must be signed out by a parent in order to leave school grounds. Students who leave campus without a valid reason will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact.
  • Traveling to and from Abrookin  All students must take the bus to and from Abrookin Career and Technical Center and the main campus for any classes. This will prevent students from being late and having to go back through security, and ensure student safety. Students who do not take the bus will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact. The bus is available at Building 2, Stair 2-2 and at the Abrookin entrance.
