Middle School Enrollment
Beginning with the 2021-22 school year, the City School District of Albany will serve students in grades 6-8 at three middle schools: North Albany Middle School, Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School, and William S. Hackett Middle School. All of the district's elementary schools will serve students from prekindergarten through grade 5.
Our middle schools are enrolled via a "feeder" pattern, meaning specific elementary schools feed into specific middle schools (see below for the feeder pattern for the 2021-22 school year). The district also has formed a Feeder Alignment Committee to begin studying recommendations for new feeder patterns for all middle schools that will take effect for the 2022-23 school year. The feeder committee will work from July through September to develop recommendations for the Board of Education to consider; the board will determine the new feeder patterns this fall.
Our school district has been working toward this goal for many years, from both programmatic and facilities perspectives. We are currently engaged in the capital project that will equip North Albany Middle School with school facilities that are on par with our existing middle schools – Hackett and Myers. The work of the Feeder Alignment Committee will be essential in moving us forward on the critical piece of developing an equitable enrollment pattern for all three middle schools.
When the facilities work is completed at North Albany, all three district middle schools will serve approximately 650 students.
Middle school placement for students who receive English as a New Language (ENL) or Special Education services is determined separately by each student’s program.
Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, the Edmund J. O'Neal building at 50 North Lark St., will be the new home of the Albany International Center, an optional program for English-language learners. The program also is expanding to serve students K-12.
